MisterWives
If someone had mentioned MisterWives to me four months ago, memories would instantly transport me to my senior year of high school when “Reflections” was big on the radio. It wouldn’t have been a stretch to say I heard that song at least once daily driving to and from campus.
However, that’s not the case anymore, and thankfully the algorithm overlords chose to send MisterWives track “Vultures” featuring PVRIS into my rotation. It didn’t take long for the entirety of their newest album, Nosebleeds: Encore to become a regular staple and one of the most frequent recommendations I’ve given my friends as of late.
It’s a breakaway from the peppy, jovial sounds of Our Own House and Connect The Dots. Still peppy, the new sound they are exploring is drastically more Pop Punk and I’m here for it. Nosebleeds: Encore is a follow-up to their 2023 record Nosebleeds. The follow-up hosts a plethora of songs from the original album but now includes features from artists like Lindsey Stirling, Against The Current, and many other female vocalists and collaborators. As well as the re-recordings, the LP also includes three bonus tracks, of which “Vultures” is one.
Now on their 'Just for One Night!' tour, MisterWives has brought the energy of Nosebleeds: Encore to the stage. Giving it the punk flair with red lights and buckled clothes. Mandy Lee, the lead singer for MisterWives, took to the stage with all the energy of a raging fire jumping from spot to spot, engaging with one side then the other. The energy the crowd had, was met equally with the energy on stage.
Overall the performance was killer and exceeded any expectations I could have had going in. But the night didn’t start there…
Moody Joody
Opening for MisterWives was the Upstart band Moody Joody, who also had a feature on their latest album. Moody Joody consisted of four members with two female lead vocalists. This allowed for live harmonies that brought an extra special edge to the performance. Their sound came across to me as a combination of The Veronicas and Chappell Roan.
Monday night's opening performance was the band's first time performing in Seattle. This made me especially glad that a good 75% of the evening's crowd showed up early enough to see them perform.
The music was youthful and filled the air with light-hearted, positive vibes. The vibe was accentuated by the playful dancing the singers performed on stage. They were not given a very big space to perform with all the instruments and audio equipment from the three bands but they made the most of it.
With refined sound style and high-quality production, Moody Joody is poised for even bigger stages. Paired with the electrifying performance from MisterWives, the night was an invigorating showcase of emerging talent and veteran musicians.
